At the age of 15, after the bank took the farm, I left New Mexico and headed for the coast. I found myself in Los Angeles with a great disliking of the big city, dreaming of someday buying a sailboat and heading off into the sunset. Of course, I knew nothing about sailing and didn’t make enough money to buy a boat, so I settled for a used drum set (I knew nothing about drumming either). After years of living the LA indie musician dream (endless parties, always broke, living at girlfriends places, sleeping on friends couches), I finally reached the top of the local club hierarchy. With the group “Cryn’ Out Loud,” we became the headlining band for many of the legendary stages including the Troubadour, the Whiskey a Go Go, Gazarri’s on the Strip and world famous Roxy Theatre. We headlined at the Roxy on many occasions, including their New Years Eve Party in 1989. Along the way, we generated interest from major record labels, including Warner Records. But due to addiction problems on the part of our lead singer, we disbanded soon after and went our separate ways. I moved to Idaho and took a 17 year break from drumming.

I really had no interest in getting back into a band, until I met The Retreads. I am so fortunate to find a group of guys with so much talent and dedication. I now feel like I’m a part of the family, and am having time of my life!
